Leaders Yeovil took full advantage of Southport’s inactivity when they eased a 2-0 win over Telford thereby increasing their lead over the Sandgrounders to a handsome eight points. An own goal from Moore opened the scoring and White’s effort completed it.
Rushden’s poor run of form continued with a heavy defeat at Dover. Strouts, Hockton (2) and Shearer scored the Lilywhites goals. As Rushden’s slump continues it looks as if their Holy Grail of Football League membership is as far away as ever.
The next five teams in the table all drew their matches. Hereford took a point from their fixture at Morecambe. Doncaster fought out a dull scoreless draw at Belle View against Stevenage. There was nothing dull about Chester’s home match against Woking however. Fisher put the home side ahead in the eighth minute before goals from Randell and Steele gave the Cardinals the edge. Steele netted another goal before halftime, as did Whitehall for Chester.
Four teams won away form home. Hayes had an excellent victory at Boston thanks to a Stevens’s goal. Scarborough scored the only goal of their match at Hednesford. Leigh RMI returned from the trip to Kingstonian with all three points as the maintained their excellent form in their first ever Conference season.
Bottom club Kettering suffering another defeat in their match against Nuneaton. A late goal from Watkins was not enough to save the home side after earlier goals from Norman (6) and King had put Nuneaton in a strong position.
Meanwhile Northwich are really flying at the moment. Dagenham were the latest side to suffer at their hands. Fletcher (2) and Norris scored Victoria’s goals as they continue their upward movement in the table.
